  • Vocabulary Preview:
    • Select 5-7 key words from the text.
    • Provide definitions and example sentences.
    • Use pictures or gestures to reinforce meaning.
  • Reading Strategy Introduction:
    • Explain skimming (reading quickly to get the main idea) and scanning (looking for specific information).
    • Demonstrate with a short paragraph.

3. While-Reading (20 minutes)

Objective: Engage with the text and develop comprehension skills.

Activity 1: Guided Reading (10 minutes)

  • Read the text aloud, modeling correct pronunciation and intonation.
  • Have students take turns reading aloud in small groups or pairs.

Activity 2: Comprehension Questions (10 minutes)

  • Students read the passage again silently.
  • Answer comprehension questions:
    1. What is the main idea of the text?
    2. What are two important details?
    3. Who/What is the text about?
    4. Are there any unfamiliar words? Guess their meaning from context.

4. Post-Reading (10 minutes)

Objective: Apply and extend comprehension skills.

  • Activity: Summarizing the Text
    • Students write a 3-sentence summary of the passage.
    • Pair work: Students compare summaries and discuss differences.
    • Volunteers share their summaries with the class.

5. Wrap-up & Homework (5 minutes)

Objective: Reinforce learning and encourage independent reading.

  • Quick Discussion: What did you learn from the text?
  • Homework: Students choose a short article or story, underline key words, and write three comprehension questions to discuss in the next lesson.

Assessment & Expected Outcomes:
